Accessibility at Glimmingehus

Glimmingehus strives to be accessible to everyone and is constantly working to improve. Below you will find information about accessibility and the aids and obstacles that exist. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact us.

Before your visit:

A tablet with the digital guide on the screen is held up outside in front of the castle so that the screen covers the entire building except the roof.

  • Visitors in wheelchairs pay only half the entrance price.
  • Accompanying personal assistant or companion of a visitor with a disability has free entry.
  • All public parts of Glimmingehus are unfortunately not accessible to all visitors with a variety of functions. This applies, for example, to the castle.
  • With help, people with reduced mobility can reach most of the different parts of the outdoor environment.
  • Guided tour of the castle in sign language can be booked for groups.
  • Guided tour of the castle in combination with a tactile castle model can be booked for groups.
  • At the reception, you can borrow a digital guide on a tablet with visual and sign language interpretation, as well as support for English, German and Danish language.
  • On the website there is an easy-to-read text about the castle.

Dogs

  • Due to Glimmingehus’ historically valuable environments, dogs are not allowed to stay inside the premises. They are, however, welcome in the castle yard. Remember not to leave your dog unattended.
  • Guide dogs and other assistance dogs are of course welcome.

Prams

  • It is possible to bring prams indoors in most premises at Glimmingehus, but not in the castle. Prams can be parked in the castle yard, but Glimmingehus is not responsible for them.

  • Parking for the disabled is available next to the building workshop, approximately 100 meters from the castle’s entrance. There are two lots. Lighting is missing.
  • During high season, we have many visitors. Because of this, there may be a shortage of parking lots, which means you may have to walk quite a distance from your parked car to the castle.

The Castle

Here you can see the steps between the first and second floors. There is a railing on the wall and there are a couple of lanterns on the stairs.

  • There is no lift in the castle at Glimmingehus and therefore you can only get up to the different floors via stairs. In several places, the steps are extra high. There are handrails on the stairs. Lighting is very limited in the castle and above all in the basement, where the floor surface is uneven. In several rooms there are benches to rest on.
  • Smoking is not permitted inside the castle, nor is it permitted in the castle yard
  • In the castle, there are signs with pictures and easy-to-read text in Swedish. Folders for lending are available in the castle entrance with translations of the sign texts into German, English and Danish.

The Castle Yard

A house with yellow-orange lime plaster and red roof tiles is seen obliquely from the front from the castle yard. A ramp runs along the right side of the building up to the door in the middle.

  • On the castle yard, there are ramps that lead into the cafe, the brewery, the museum and the Roaster’s house.
  • In the museum, located in the castle yard, there are folding chairs that can be borrowed.
  • Glimmingehus’ café is only open during the high season. It is equipeed with a ramp for wheelchair and also has an accessible toilet.
