Paperbirds are flying in front of the castle

Ghost hens, peacocks & parrots

Birds are truly something that can be associated with Glimmingehus in many different ways – both in the present and in history. That’s why we devote a few selected days during the winter break to the topic!

For the people of the Middle Ages at this site, birds were used for a variety of things such as quills, food, hunting, and costume decoration. They have also been strongly involved in traditions and folklore, like the story of the ghost hen!

Nowadays, there are plenty of different birds here such as pigeons, ducks, wild geese, kestrels, and owls.

In the atmospheric fryar’s house from 1640, we carry out activities on the theme – come and make yourself a beautiful paper bird!

Don’t miss visiting our exhibition about exciting characters at Glimmingehus throughout history! In the shop, you can borrow our nice digital guide to the castle, and you’ll also find books, historical replicas, toys, and other fun items there.

Warm welcome!
