The Upper Entrance Hall

Along with the adjacent staircases, this room, known as the Upper Entrance Hall, was probably the hub of the castle.

It would have been teeming with activity as servants, family and guests alike made their way to and from the Castle Hall or other rooms in the house. Today. the Wild Man, or the Giant as he is also known, stands guard here. It is one of the castle’s traditions to salute him in passing. It is said that anyone who fails to do so invites misfortune…
